Visits as IDFA reported them. From 2022 IDFA’s totals include year-round screenings, and for 2024 and 2025 visits it expected later in the year. Years without a point have no published total; for 2021 the reports give only film visits (over 100,000), and 2020 was held online and in cinemas.

In context

The Netherlands sold over 28m cinema tickets in 2025, and arthouse cinemas about 3.9m, their best year in ten. IDFA counted about 165,000 audience and school visits at its 2025 edition: about 4% of a whole year of arthouse visits, in eleven days.

Methodology and data

The report counts IDFA’s own ticketing programme in Amsterdam. Best of IDFA in Groningen and Nijmegen, sold by those cinemas, is left out; Evenitto’s IDFA 2026 guide adds those and screenings from other venues’ agendas, and counts items differently, so its counts differ.

The figures come from IDFA’s public ticketing programme, which Evenitto’s crawler reads every hour. One screening is one bookable session. A work with many short slots a day (VR booths, tastings, exhibitions) counts once per day, and that day counts as sold out only when every slot is.

Sold out is the status IDFA’s ticket shop shows for a session at the last check. Screenings that IDFA cancels or withdraws are left out.

Titles, countries, running times and premieres are IDFA’s own data for each film. Historical visits come from IDFA’s festival reports and annual reports; every figure links to its source.
