What is the difference between stand-up and cabaret?
In stand-up one comedian with a microphone tells jokes and stories, often in a comedy club where several comedians perform on one night. Cabaret is a Dutch theatre tradition: a full-length show by one cabaret artist or a group, with stories, jokes and often songs.
Where can I see comedy in English?
In Amsterdam at Boom Chicago and Comedy Café Amsterdam, in Rotterdam at Comedy Club Haug, and on regular nights in Utrecht, The Hague and Eindhoven among others. The In English page lists them by city.
What is a try-out?
In a try-out a comedian or cabaret artist tests a new show before its premiere. You see it first, and often for less.
What is an open mic?
At an open mic new comedians take the stage for the first time and known comedians test new material. Entry is often free or a small fee.
