About

In 1997 Chișinău, Zina and Victor struggle to support their family, while daughter Eva earns money in a nightclub.

Chișinău, 1997. Zina (Marina Palii) and Victor (Ion Munteanu) live with their daughter Eva in a courtyard building in the Moldovan capital. Both once belonged to the intelligentsia, but in the young Republic of Moldova they have lost their income: Zina's theatre sells no more tickets, and no one buys Victor's paintings. Because money is short, the family has had to give up Eva's piano. After the electricity is cut, Victor works in the basement and paints by candlelight. Zina looks for ways to keep the household going, including reselling homemade schnapps from the countryside. Eva's friend, a nightclub dancer, takes her along, and Eva can earn something there by playing piano. Zina also plans to rent the flat through an agent to foreign tourists while the family stays in the basement studio.
