About

In the Basque Country, seventeen-year-old Ainara tells her family she is considering life as a cloistered nun, unsettling her widowed father and her atheist aunt.

Sundays is set in the Basque Country and centres on Ainara (Blanca Soroa), a seventeen-year-old girl who, during a religious retreat, meets a mother prioress (Nagore Aranburu). Her aunt Maite (Patricia López Arnaiz), an atheist cultural manager, brings her home. With her friends away on an exchange programme, Ainara asks her father Iñaki (Miguel Garcés), a widowed restaurant owner, whether she can spend more time at the convent. At Maite's flat, where Maite lives with her partner Pablo (Juan Minujín) and their son, her aunt presses her about her wish to begin a process of vocational discernment and possibly become a cloistered nun. Maite is astonished and advises her to see more of life first. The news also stirs strong reactions within the family.
