About
Mike Sardina and Claire Sardina, two struggling Milwaukee musicians, form a Neil Diamond tribute band and begin a romance.
Song Sung Blue is a 2025 biographical musical drama directed by Craig Brewer and based on Greg Kohs's 2008 documentary of the same name. Hugh Jackman plays Mike Sardina, a musician who in 1987 is hired for the Wisconsin State Fair to replace a Don Ho impersonator recovering from emergency surgery. When the promoter prevents him from performing his own songs, Mike refuses to go on and quits. Claire Sardina (Kate Hudson) works as a hairdresser by day and performs by night; she is preparing a Patsy Cline act. In 1988 Mike and Claire meet again as neighbors. She suggests he try the Neil Diamond repertoire, and he watches her sing. Mike begins practicing, and they decide to perform together, later starting a relationship. A misunderstanding about the first gig's intended audience ends the show in a brawl, and Claire tells Mike his stubbornness threatens the band's future.
