About
A retiring swordsman asks a female warrior to deliver his legendary sword, but a masked thief steals it in Qing-dynasty China.
Set in Qing-dynasty China, the swordsman Li Mu Bai (Chow Yun-Fat) decides to leave his fighting life behind. He asks his friend Yu Shu Lien (Michelle Yeoh), who leads a security company, to bring his legendary sword, Green Destiny, to their benefactor Sir Te (Lung Sihung) in Beijing. At Sir Te's estate, Shu Lien meets Jen (Zhang Ziyi), a daughter of Governor Yu (Li Fazeng) who is being prepared for marriage. Jen is drawn to the life of a warrior. One evening a masked figure steals the sword from the estate, and Shu Lien and Mu Bai go after it.
