About
On Christmas Eve, George Bailey, despairing and contemplating suicide, is shown by his guardian angel what Bedford Falls would be like without him.
In Bedford Falls, George Bailey (James Stewart) has spent his life helping the people of his town. His modest building and loan company is what stands between the town and the wealthy Mr. Potter (Lionel Barrymore). On Christmas Eve, the company's $8,000 is lost and George's troubles begin. As his family and friends prepare for Christmas, George is in despair and contemplates suicide. In Heaven, the prayers for him reach guardian angel Clarence Odbody (Henry Travers), who is assigned to save George. Clarence shows him the lives he has touched and what Bedford Falls would have been like if George had never existed. Mary Hatch (Donna Reed) has had a crush on him since childhood.
