About
The life of British landscape painter J.M.W. Turner, played by Timothy Spall, across the last 25 years of his career.
In September 1826, the British landscape painter J.M.W. Turner returns to England from a trip abroad. Timothy Spall plays Turner, who lives in London with his father, the former barber William Turner Snr (Paul Jesson), and his housekeeper Hannah Danby (Dorothy Atkinson). His father helps him prepare canvases and colours and receives visitors. Turner moves through society as an eccentric, generous and often taciturn man; he travels, paints, stays with the country aristocracy, visits a brothel and is a popular if unruly member of the Royal Academy of Arts. He also forms a close relationship with a seaside landlady, Sophia Booth (Marion Bailey).
