About
A struggling author is hired to finish a best-selling novelist's book series and moves into the family's Vermont home, where she makes unsettling discoveries.
Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson) is a published author in New York City who is struggling to find a wider audience for her work. Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett) approaches her to finish the popular novel series written by his wife Verity (Anne Hathaway), a best-selling author known for novels told from the perspective of immoral villains. An accident has left Verity unable to complete the series herself, and the family has kept her condition out of the media.
Lowen accepts the job and moves into the Crawfords' lakeside home in Vermont, where she lives and works alongside Jeremy, Verity and Verity's young son Crew (Brady Wagner). There she comes across autobiographical notes by Verity and finds unsettling things about the family she is staying with, while the line between fiction and reality starts to blur.
