Former pilot Cooper joins a NASA mission through a wormhole to find humanity a new home.

In the near future, Earth suffers dust storms and crop blights. Joseph Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a widowed former NASA test pilot, farms and raises his children Murph (Mackenzie Foy) and Tom (Casey Affleck).

After a dust storm, Cooper and Murph find that dust patterns in her room, which she had attributed to a ghost, come from a gravitational anomaly. The patterns form binary code with coordinates that lead them to a secret NASA facility headed by Professor John Brand (Michael Caine). Brand explains that a wormhole appeared near Saturn 48 years earlier, leading to a system in another galaxy with twelve potentially habitable planets near a black hole called Gargantua. Cooper joins a mission through the wormhole with Amelia Brand (Anne Hathaway), Romilly and Doyle (Wes Bentley) aboard the Endurance.
