About

In 1939, Polish captain Andrzej is taken into Soviet captivity while his wife Anna hopes for his return and Poland is divided.

September 1939: Poland is invaded from the west by Germany and from the east by the Soviet Union. Polish refugees fleeing both armies meet on a bridge as the country is divided. Thousands of Polish officers, including Captain Andrzej (Artur Żmijewski), are taken into Soviet captivity. His wife Anna (Maja Ostaszewska) and their daughter Nika reach him in a camp before he is deported to the USSR. Anna wants him to flee with them, but Andrzej refuses because he feels bound by his military oath. With help from a Soviet officer, Anna and her daughter return to Kraków, where they wait for news; for the families, a time of uncertainty begins.
