About
A Scottish teenager and talented goalkeeper begins to experience Tourette-related tics and uncontrollable swearing, straining school and family life.
In 1983, John Davidson (Robert Aramayo) lives with his working-class family in Galashiels in the Scottish Borders. A talented goalkeeper, he dreams of a professional football career and starts secondary school at Galashiels Academy. Then, just as a football scout is due to assess his goalkeeping, John begins to experience tics and uncontrollable swearing. In a time when doctors barely understand Tourette syndrome, the incidents affect his school life and strain life at home with his mother Heather (Shirley Henderson) and father Tommy (Peter Mullan). As a young man he meets Dottie (Maxine Peake), the down-to-earth mother of an old classmate.
