About

In summer 1983, Roald Dahl meets his publishers as they try to contain fallout from his public comments on Israel and the Palestinians.

Set in the summer of 1983, shortly before the release of The Witches, Giant places Roald Dahl in a tense meeting with his British and American publishers. They are trying to limit the consequences of his public criticism of Israel and support for the Palestinians, expressed in a review of a book about the 1982 Lebanon war. John Lithgow plays Dahl. The cast also includes Elliot Levey, Aya Cash, Rachael Stirling, Tessa Bonham Jones and Richard Hope.

The film records a performance of Mark Rosenblatt's stage play, directed by Nicholas Hytner and staged at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London in 2025. The chamber-theatre staging is deliberately confined, and the production raises the question of whether an artist's work can be separated from the artist.
