In June 1940, General Charles de Gaulle refuses to accept France's armistice and travels to London to continue the fight against Nazi Germany.
In June 1940, France capitulates to the German army and signs an armistice. Amid the chaos, General Charles de Gaulle refuses to accept the situation. He leaves for London, with no military backing and little prospect, to recover what remains of a defeated France. De Gaulle holds to the conviction that a free France can be rebuilt and that Europe should keep fighting Nazi Germany. Simon Abkarian plays De Gaulle, with Simon Russell Beale as Winston Churchill and Mathieu Kassovitz as Admiral Darlan. Antonin Baudry directs this first part of a two-film epic.
