At a concert Lilly meets the energetic Felice, introduced through Ilse (Johanna Wokalek), Lilly's housekeeper and Felice's friend and sometime lover. The film also begins in 1997, when the 83-year-old Lilly (Inge Keller) moves into a dilapidated flat that once served as an underground hideout and meets her former housekeeper Ilse (Kyra Mladeck), already a resident, in a retirement home.
