Seating plan

Five halls, from the Boutiquezaal to the colour halls

All five halls are seated, and for most screenings you choose a seat on the seat map when you book online. The Boutiquezaal has 39 red armchairs, including two loveseats and small tables; the other halls are named after their colours.

Air-conditioned, average 21°C

The building has five halls: Rood, Geel, Groen, Blauw and the Boutiquezaal. In the four colour halls the wall colour returns in the seats. The Boutiquezaal has luxury armchairs and a removable front row, so it can be used for film and for events.

The Gele Zaal and Boutiquezaal opened in November 2025; the other three date from the 2008 building. Seat counts for the four colour halls are not published, so the Boutiquezaal's 39 seats are the only official hall figure.

The halls have air conditioning and a fresh-air circulation system at an average 21°C. The Gele Zaal is entered at the rear and has the best wheelchair-friendly places; the accessibility section explains the route and the seating advice.

Capacity

How many seats does Filmtheater Hilversum have?

The cinema has five halls but does not publish a total seat count. The only official hall figure is the Boutiquezaal's 39 seats; the other four halls' capacities are not on the venue's pages.

Regional cinema peer
De Lieve Vrouw, Amersfoort: 175 seats in 3 film halls

That makes a like-for-like local comparison difficult. Vue Hilversum, the town's commercial multiplex at Langgewenst 20, has seven halls including a Dolby Cinema, but its Hilversum page does not list hall capacities. Published figures for the regional arthouse cinema De Lieve Vrouw in Amersfoort show three film halls of 73, 59 and 43 seats, 175 in total. It has fewer halls than Filmtheater's five halls, so it is a scale benchmark rather than a local substitute.

The 2025 expansion added the Gele Zaal and Boutiquezaal to the original three halls, so any pre-2025 total no longer describes the building. For a group or a private screening, ask the venue directly rather than relying on an old capacity figure.

A standard ticket is €12.50. CJP and students pay €9.00, children's and family films €8.50, and the Wednesday evening preview €8.50. Films longer than 150 minutes cost €2.00 more, and films longer than 240 minutes €5.00 more.

Can I use Cineville at Filmtheater Hilversum?

Yes, Cineville is free at Filmtheater Hilversum. Book online and scan your Cineville pass at the pillar in the foyer. A Cineville membership costs €24 a month, or €19 for members under 30, and excludes specials such as Film&Food.

Do I need to book a seat?

For most screenings you choose a seat on the online seat map when you buy a ticket. You can also buy at the box office during opening hours, which takes PIN or a gift card, not cash; Cineville tickets are sold there from 90 minutes before the film. Phone reservations on (035) 623 5466 are held until 30 minutes before the start.

Where can I park near Filmtheater Hilversum?

The closest garage is Q-Park Hilvertshof at Groest 100, 350 m and about five minutes' walk, charging €3.00 an hour with a €15.00 day maximum. Gooiland and Gooische Brink are about six minutes' walk and cheaper in the evening at €2.77 an hour or €6.41 for the evening.

How do I get to Filmtheater Hilversum by train?

Hilversum station is 530 m from the cinema, about eight minutes' walk. From the station you can also take bus 1, 6, 104 or 106 to the Groest stop, which is 120 m from the entrance.

Is Filmtheater Hilversum accessible for wheelchairs?

Yes. The ground floor is step-free, a lift reaches the Boutiquezaal, and there is an accessible toilet. The Gele Zaal has the best wheelchair-friendly places. Book a wheelchair space by phone on (035) 623 5466 or at the box office, not online, so the hall can be prepared.

Can I eat or drink at Filmtheater Hilversum?

The foyer bar serves coffee, tapped beer, wine from Il Divino, cakes from Toetjes van Titia, cheese from Echte Liefde and nuts from C'est Bon. Show your film ticket at De Open Keuken, five minutes away, for 15% off dinner.

Can I cancel or change my ticket?

Online tickets can be cancelled until the screening starts; the amount comes back as account credit or a voucher, not as a bank refund. Box-office tickets can be rebooked only at the box office, up to one day before the film. Email cancellations cost €1 per ticket.

Does Filmtheater Hilversum have air conditioning?

Yes. The halls are kept cool in summer and warm in winter, with a fresh-air circulation system and an average temperature of 21°C.

What is the address and phone number of Filmtheater Hilversum?

The address is Herenplein 5, 1211 DR Hilversum. The phone number is (035) 623 5466 and the email address is [email protected].

Can I hire a hall at Filmtheater Hilversum?

Yes. Outside regular opening hours you can hire a hall for a private screening, including the Boutiquezaal with its 39 armchairs and removable front row. Contact the venue for availability and terms.

Does Filmtheater Hilversum have a film festival?

Yes. The cinema holds its own Filmfestival Hilversum and an annual open-air screening in the Dudokpark. The rest of the year mixes new arthouse releases with theme programmes, opera and ballet, a film club and school screenings.

Are there subtitles or audio description?

Earcatch provides audio description for many films, and Subcatch provides special subtitles for Dutch films and documentaries. In the Gele Zaal the rear row is temporarily further back, so subtitles can be harder to read if you are under 1.60 m; booster cushions are available.

Can I bring my own food and drink?

No, outside food and drink are not allowed in the foyer or the halls. Drinks and snacks bought at the bar can be taken into the screening.
