About
Three New York drag queens travel to Los Angeles for a pageant, carrying an autographed Julie Newmar photo.
Beeban Kidron's road comedy-drama centres on three New York City drag queens. After tying for the win in the city's Drag Queen of the Year contest, Vida Boheme (Patrick Swayze) and Noxeema Jackson (Wesley Snipes) win a trip to Hollywood to take part in the larger Drag Queen of America pageant. Vida persuades Noxeema to bring along the inexperienced Chi-Chi Rodriguez (John Leguizamo) as their protégé.
To fund the journey, the pair cash in their plane tickets to a friend and use the money to buy a yellow 1967 Cadillac DeVille, and the three set off for Los Angeles. They carry with them an autographed photo of Julie Newmar, signed 'To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar,' which gives the film its title.
