About
An older Artificial Friend named Klara bonds with a lonely girl, Josie, after Josie and her mother buy her as a companion.
In a dystopian future, Klara (Jenna Ortega), an android companion known as an Artificial Friend, hopes to find a good home. At The Friend Store, her older B-1 model is passed over for newer B-3 units. When Klara is placed in the shop window, she sees two people on the street in a glow she takes to be love. A girl named Josie (Mia Tharia) then approaches her, and they interact despite store rules. The next day Josie and her mother, Chrissie (Amy Adams), buy Klara as Josie's companion, though Chrissie is reluctant. Josie is ill, has undergone lifting, an intelligence-enhancing gene therapy, and lives a lonely life in a large rural house near a wheat farm. Klara and Josie become friends, and Klara shares her belief that the Sun is a deity that can grant wishes.
