American horror and science-fiction author David Norton (Timothy Hutton) travels to Palma de Mallorca with his fiancée Jane Graham (Georgia Mackenzie) to speak about his work and promote his latest book, The Kovak Box, at a small gathering of fans. After Jane receives an anonymous phone call and jumps from their hotel balcony, David meets Silvia Mendez (Lucía Jiménez), a young woman who survived a similar fall on the same night.
