About
Agnès Varda portrays filmmaker Jacques Demy's youth through his memories and colour scenes from the films that those events inspired.
Jacquot de Nantes is Agnès Varda's portrait of the youth of filmmaker Jacques Demy. Varda, Demy's colleague and life partner, based the film on memories that Demy wrote down in a synopsis and recounted to her. The black-and-white flashback remains in the period before Demy made his first films. Events that would later inspire certain characters or scenes are shown alongside colour passages from the versions he eventually filmed. The portrait highlights that his calling to become a director was already present early.
