In postwar Japan, a former pilot and a government team confront a new monster while the country is still recovering from Godzilla’s attack.
Takashi Yamazaki writes and directs Godzilla Minus Zero, a Japanese kaiju film set in 1949. Two years after Godzilla was overcome and his remains lay in Sagami Bay, Japan is still recovering from war and earlier attacks. Former kamikaze pilot Koichi Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki) lives with Noriko (Minami Hamabe), who survived the Ginza attack, and their adopted daughter Akiko; neighbor Sumiko Ota (Sakura Ando) helps while running an orphanage. Kenji Noda of the Large-Scale Disaster Response Bureau puts together a team that includes Shiro Mizushima (Yuki Yamada), Seiji Akitsu (Kuranosuke Sasaki) and former destroyer captain Tatsuo Hotta (Miou Tanaka). When a dragon-like creature attacks Matsumoto City, it first appears as a smaller, single-headed monster that brings down buildings with lightning from its mouth.
