How many people fit in the Westfalenhalle?
The Westfalenhalle holds up to 16,140 people, the figure the venue itself gives for the main hall.
- Westfalenhalle, maximum
- 16,140
- Halle 2, rows of seats
- 2,068
The capacity grew to this level when the cycle track was removed in 2011 and the interior was rebuilt. How many tickets are sold for a given show depends on the stage and seating layout the organiser chooses, so a seated show with a big stage holds fewer people than the maximum.
Halle 2 next door is a flat hall with up to 2,068 seats in rows, a different size entirely: do not add the hall capacities together to get a figure for the complex.

Seating plan and block numbers in the Westfalenhalle
The hall has a flat floor (Innenraum) with tiers of stands around it; on your ticket the floor is standing or seated depending on the show, and the stands are numbered by block.
Floor
Standing or seated, depending on the show; step-free
Stands
Blocks numbered 1xx to 4xx; stairs only, no lift
Wheelchair places
Usually a special tribune on the floor
Block numbers on the seat map run from 101 up to 418, grouped in hundreds (1xx, 2xx, 3xx and 4xx). The exact layout, the stage position and which blocks are on sale are set by the organiser for every tour, so the seat map of your ticket seller is the final word.
For access the venue gives one clear rule: only the floor is step-free. The stands can be reached only by stairs, because there is no lift in the Westfalenhalle. Pick a floor or a block you can reach comfortably.
- Wheelchair users and people with limited mobility order through [email protected] so the venue can plan the best place.
- In seated shows in Halle 1 and Halle 2 only the parquet seats are step-free.
Bags, lockers and cloakroom at the Westfalenhalle
Bags up to DIN A4 size (21 by 29.7 cm) are usually no problem at the entrance; larger luggage, umbrellas and backpacks should stay at home.
Everyone passes a security check. Small bags can be checked by hand. Food and drinks may not be brought into the halls.
- Bag size
- Up to DIN A4, 21 × 29.7 cm
- Locker size
- 33.5 × 19.5 × 37.9 cm (H × W × D)
- Locker price
- 6 € on site, 6.95 € booked online
- Cloakroom
- In the ground-level walkway (Ladenstraße)
- The lockers stand outdoors directly in front of the main entrance. Each has two USB-A sockets and one USB-C socket for charging a phone.
- The number of lockers is limited, so book one online if you want to be sure of it.
- The cloakrooms and the accessible toilets are in the ground-level walkway around the hall.
Eating and drinking at the Westfalenhalle
You buy food and drinks at the venue, because bringing your own into the halls is not allowed.
At events in the Westfalenhalle and in Halle 1 and Halle 2, drinks are sold in deposit cups, and collection boxes for the cup deposit donation stand at several places. The Restaurant Rosenterrassen in the Kongresszentrum serves à la carte dishes from 17:00 to 21:30 every day, and its bar stays open until 22:00. Event lounges with catering and an open bar are bookable for groups of up to 25 people.
- Event lounges are not step-free, because the building is a listed monument.

Accessibility at the Westfalenhalle: wheelchair places, entrance and toilets
Wheelchair users enter through a separate entrance to the right of the main entrance, and only the floor of the Westfalenhalle is step-free.
The cloakrooms and the accessible toilets are step-free from the ground-level walkway, and the Eurokey locking system keeps the accessible toilets for people who need them. There is no lift and all tribunes are reached by stairs, so the venue advises against booking seats you cannot reach comfortably. Usually a special tribune is set up on the floor for wheelchair users, and places are limited: book early. The venue is certified by “Reisen für Alle”.
- Entrance
- Separate entrance right of the main entrance
- Step-free
- Floor only; no lift, stands by stairs
- Tickets
- By email to [email protected] for a personal consultation
- Guests with a blue badge usually get a free space near the venue on A3/A4; the staff guide them on arrival.
- In Halle 1 and Halle 2 only the parquet is step-free at seated events.
Age limits, house rules and safety
A concert is not a dance event, so section 5 of the Youth Protection Act does not apply, but organisers set their own age rules based on it: check the event page and your ticket.
Parents can name an adult of at least 18 years as a person entrusted with their upbringing, who must be fit and reliable to supervise the minor during the event and on the way home, and who must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The venue provides the forms. Animals may not be brought into the halls, except assistance animals; exceptions are announced separately.
- Feeling unsafe or harassed? Ask any staff member “Wo geht’s nach PANAMA?” or say PANAMA: they take you to a safe, quiet place without further questions.
- Lost property: the central office at Strobelallee 45 is open on Tuesdays from 08:00 to 12:00, phone +49 231 1204-1890, email [email protected].
How to get to the Westfalenhalle by U-Bahn, train and car
Take the U45 from Dortmund Hauptbahnhof to the stop Westfalenhallen: the ride takes about 10 minutes and the entrance is a short walk from the stop.
From the city centre (stations Reinoldikirche or Stadtgarten) the U46 reaches the same stop in about 5 minutes. After a big show many people leave at once, and after well-attended events delays are possible, so plan some extra time. There is a taxi rank in front of the main entrance.
Drivers use the B1, which links to the A1, A45, A2 and A42. Enter Rheinlanddamm 200 or the special destination “Westfalenhallen” in the sat nav and follow the signs near the site. The Dortmund airport is 12 km from the venue.

Parking for events costs 11 € per car on the Westfalenhallen lots (12 € from 1 January 2027), and the closest lots A3 and A4 are 2 to 3 minutes from the hall.
Around 8,800 spaces for cars and coaches are near the site. The lots open at the latest two hours before Einlass and cannot be used outside events. For selected events you can book a parking ticket for lot A3/A4 in the ticket shop in advance for 15,50 € (17 € from 1 January 2027): it keeps a space free and nobody collects money at the lot. It is no ticket to the event.
Lots A2, A3, A4 and A5 have no height limit; the underground garage below Halle 6 (reached through A2) takes vehicles only up to 1.80 m. A length limit of 5 m applies per space, and a longer vehicle pays more. Motorbikes, mopeds, scooters and bicycles park free. The lots C to F belong to the car park operator DOPARK.

- Electric cars: four charging columns with eight points of 11 kW near Eingang Nord; payment is by card.
