What is the history of Podium Mozaïek?
Podium Mozaïek opened in 2005 in the former Pniëlkerk, a church built in 1954-1955 on Bos en Lommerweg.
The Pniëlkerk was built in 1954-1955. At the end of the 1990s the congregation decided to sell the church because of high maintenance costs and a shrinking community. In 2000, Stichting Multicultureel Podium Mozaïek was founded to use art and culture to promote integration in the neighbourhood.
With housing corporation Het Oosten and subsidies, the church was converted into a theatre; part of the building also became a GP practice. The theatre opened in 2005. The building has three halls, and the main hall holds 350 people.
The house companies are Theater RAST, De Gasten, Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, Orkaan and reART. The programme covers theatre, music, storytelling and comedy.
