About
A 2026 all-archival documentary about the life and work of Palestinian-American scholar Edward Said, directed by Maiken Baird.
Edward Said: Between Worlds is a 2026 American documentary directed by Maiken Baird. It follows the life and work of Edward Said, the Palestinian-American scholar who appears here as himself through archival material.
Said was a professor at Columbia University, a pianist and a critic. Born in Jerusalem in 1935, he is described as a thinker who remained an outsider in the academic world. The film uses family films, television debates and interviews, and consists entirely of archival footage. It connects Said's personal history to Palestine, from his childhood in Jerusalem to his books on Orientalism and the Palestinian cause. Baird's portrait also shows Said challenging world leaders, exposing dehumanizing language and speaking out against injustice.
