Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday both open in Dutch cinemas on Wednesday 16 December 2026, and Pathé plays Dune as a preview on Tuesday 15 December. Dune is in IMAX at ten halls (seven Pathé, three Kinepolis), all digital laser: no Dutch hall has the IMAX 70mm film version. The 70mm film print plays at two cinemas: KINO in Rotterdam (€17.50) and Eye in Amsterdam. Avengers has no IMAX show in the Dutch listings, but it is in 4DX at all nine Pathé 4DX halls (every show in 3D), in ScreenX at six halls and in Dolby Cinema at three. Tickets for both are already on sale at Pathé.
Checked 22 October 2026. Not announced yet: KINO's 70mm times after Wednesday 23 December, Eye's exact ticket price for Dune and Vue's formats for both films.
What is Dunesday, and when do both films open in the Netherlands?
Dunesday is Wednesday 16 December 2026, when Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday open on the same day. Pathé uses the name and plays nearly only these two films that day. Dune has previews on Tuesday 15 December at Pathé, Kinepolis, Vue, KINO and Eye. Avengers has no preview. Evenitto's film pages for Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday follow the cinemas as they publish showtimes.

The Pathé shows are as listed on 22 October; the Dune page at Pathé and at Kinepolis show the current times. IMAX's own page also lists the Dutch IMAX showtimes per cinema.
Is Dune: Part Three in IMAX 70mm in the Netherlands?
No. Every Dutch IMAX hall is a digital laser hall: Pathé says all its IMAX halls have IMAX with Laser (two 4K laser projectors and IMAX speakers in the walls and ceiling), and Kinepolis describes 4K laser projection. IMAX's list of theatres showing Dune in IMAX 70mm film has no Dutch cinema. The nearest is Kinepolis Brussels, a real 70mm film hall; on 22 October IMAX listed it with tickets on sale only for Tuesday 15 December.
Where can you see Dune: Part Three in 70mm in the Netherlands?
At KINO in Rotterdam and at Eye in Amsterdam, in a standard 70mm film print (not the IMAX 70mm format). KINO shows "Dune: Part Three – a 70mm presentation" in KINO 1, in English with Dutch subtitles, with a running time of 140 minutes and Kijkwijzer 16 (violence). Eye shows it in Cinema 1, also on 70mm and with Dutch subtitles. On 22 October both listed these shows:
| Cinema | Dune in 70mm | Ticket |
|---|---|---|
| KINO, Rotterdam | Tuesday 15 December 21:00, then daily from Wednesday 16 to Wednesday 23 December at 13:45, 17:00 and 20:30 | €17.50 (regular €13, weekend €14) |
| Eye, Amsterdam | Tuesday 15 December (sold out), then Thursday 17 December to Sunday 3 January, mostly three shows a day, and Monday 1 February; none on Wednesday 16 December | Standard €14, plus €2.50 for screenings over 150 minutes; a 70mm supplement may apply |
At KINO the Rotterdampas free ticket and the ten-ride card are not valid for 70mm. KINO lists a Cineville pass as free in its price list and names no exception for 70mm, so check at booking; at Eye, Cineville holders pay any supplement too. Check Eye's page for the exact times, which change by day.
Can you see Avengers: Doomsday in IMAX in the Netherlands?
Not on 22 October: neither Pathé nor Kinepolis lists an IMAX show for Avengers, and Kinepolis's IMAX page names Dune but not Avengers. Pathé's press release says Avengers is "also" in 4DX, ScreenX and Dolby Cinema and Dune "also" in IMAX.
Where can you see Avengers: Doomsday in 4DX?
At the nine Pathé cinemas with a 4DX hall. 4DX moves the seat and adds wind, mist and other effects (more on our 4DX page). Every Avengers 4DX show on 16 December is in 3D; Dune's 4DX shows are in 2D. On 16 December Pathé lists two to five Avengers shows per 4DX hall:
| Cinema | City | Avengers in 4DX on 16 December | Dune in 4DX on 16 December |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pathé Arena | Amsterdam | 5 | None |
| Pathé de Munt | Amsterdam | 3 | 1 (18:00) |
| Pathé de Kuip | Rotterdam | 3 | 1 |
| Pathé Scheveningen | Den Haag | 2 | 1 |
| Pathé Utrecht Leidsche Rijn | Utrecht | 4 | None |
| Pathé Eindhoven | Eindhoven | 4 | 1 (09:00) |
| Pathé Maastricht | Maastricht | 3 | 1 |
| Pathé Nijmegen | Nijmegen | 3 | 1 |
| Pathé Zwolle | Zwolle | 3 | 1 |
These are the shows in Pathé's booking system on 22 October. Pathé's 4DX rules advise against 4DX for epilepsy, back or neck problems, pregnancy, children under four or shorter than 102 cm, and anyone over 120 kg; children aged 4 to 11 can only go with an adult. Hot drinks and wine glasses are not allowed in the hall.
Where can you see Avengers: Doomsday in ScreenX, Dolby Cinema and Laser ULTRA?
ScreenX adds the side walls to the picture and is never shown in 3D (more on our ScreenX page). Pathé has it at Spuimarkt in Den Haag and in Amersfoort, with four shows each on 16 December; Kinepolis lists ScreenX 2D at Enschede, Almere, Jaarbeurs Utrecht and Breda. Dolby Cinema (our page) is at three Pathé cinemas (de Munt in Amsterdam, de Kuip in Rotterdam and Scheveningen in Den Haag), with three or four Avengers shows on 16 December. Dune is in Dolby Cinema at those halls only as a preview on Tuesday 15 December (20:00 at de Munt).
| Format | Dune: Part Three | Avengers: Doomsday |
|---|---|---|
| IMAX | Pathé 7, Kinepolis 3 | Not listed |
| IMAX 70mm film | Not in the Netherlands | Not listed |
| 70mm film | KINO Rotterdam, Eye Amsterdam | Not listed |
| 4DX | 7 Pathé halls, 1 show on 16 December | 9 Pathé halls |
| ScreenX | Not listed | Pathé 2, Kinepolis 4 |
| Dolby Cinema | Preview only, 15 December | Pathé 3 halls |
| Laser ULTRA | 7 Kinepolis cinemas | 9 Kinepolis cinemas |
| 3D | Not listed | Pathé and Kinepolis |
Laser ULTRA is Kinepolis's laser hall type. Kinepolis lists Dune in it at Den Bosch, Dordrecht, Groningen, Haarlem, Hoofddorp, Leidschendam and Jaarbeurs Utrecht, and Avengers in 2D at Dordrecht, Breda, Haarlem, Leidschendam, Jaarbeurs Utrecht, Den Bosch, Enschede, Hoofddorp and Groningen, and in 3D at Breda, Leidschendam, Jaarbeurs Utrecht, Enschede, Hoofddorp and Almere.
What does a ticket for IMAX, 4DX or ScreenX cost extra?
Pathé and Kinepolis add the surcharge to the normal ticket price. At Pathé it is already in the price you see when you book online; the list below matters for subscriptions and vouchers. At Kinepolis both films are over 135 minutes, so the long-film surcharge applies as well, and so does the weekend surcharge on Friday from 18:00, on Saturday and Sunday and in school holidays (the Christmas holidays start on Saturday 19 December).
| Format | Pathé surcharge | Kinepolis surcharge |
|---|---|---|
| IMAX | €3.00 | €3.25 |
| IMAX 3D | €4.50 | €4.50 |
| 4DX | €5.50 | Not offered |
| 4DX 3D | €7.00 | Not offered |
| ScreenX | €3.00 | €3.50 |
| Dolby Cinema | €3.00 (3D €6.50) | Not offered |
| Laser ULTRA | Not offered | €3.00 |
| 3D | €1.50, plus glasses | €1.75 |
| Film of 135 minutes or more | None | €0.75 |
| Weekend or school holiday | None listed | €1.00 |
An IMAX ticket at Kinepolis on Wednesday 16 December therefore costs €4.00 more than a regular ticket (€3.25 plus €0.75). Our page on cinema ticket prices compares the chains. Pathé's 3D surcharges are for the film without glasses (Dolby Cinema 3D comes with loan glasses); IMAX 3D needs its own glasses, sold at the box office. All Avengers 4DX shows on 16 December are 3D, so they cost the 4DX 3D price: €7.00 plus glasses.
Do cinema subscriptions cover IMAX, 4DX and ScreenX?
Only Unlimited Gold does. Unlimited Gold (€32 a month) has no surcharge for 3D, IMAX, Dolby Cinema, 4DX or ScreenX. Explorer (€9.95, one film a month) and Unlimited (€23) pay the surcharges above. At Kinepolis the Movie Club ticket is valid for 2D only; 3D, Laser ULTRA, Atmos, MX4D, ScreenX and Cosy seats cost the usual surcharge, and the answer does not mention IMAX, so ask Kinepolis before you count on it. Compare them all on cinema subscriptions.
When do tickets for Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday go on sale?
They already are. Pathé started the Avengers pre-sale on 6 October and the Dune sale on 20 October, at pathe.nl and in the Pathé app, and called Avengers its biggest pre-sale ever with almost 60,000 tickets sold by 20 October. On 22 October every Pathé cinema listed both films from 16 December. Kinepolis lists dates from 15 December for Dune and from 16 December for Avengers. KINO had times for 15 to 18 December but still called Dune "expected". Pathé publishes its programme on Monday evenings and puts IMAX, 4DX, Dolby and ScreenX shows online earlier, so more premium shows can appear in the weeks before 16 December.
How long are the films, and how do you plan a double bill?
Dune is 150 minutes and Avengers 165 minutes, so a double bill is 5 hours and 15 minutes of film. Pathé says both films play all day on 16 December in all its cinemas, so you can see them back to back. Pathé Arena in Amsterdam is the easy case, with the IMAX hall (Dune) and the 4DX hall (Avengers) in the same building. On 22 October its 16 December times let you choose between:
| Plan | First film | Second film | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Morning and lunch | Dune in IMAX 09:00, ends 11:50 | Avengers in 4DX 12:30 | 40 minutes |
| Afternoon and evening | Dune in IMAX 15:30, ends 18:20 | Avengers in 4DX 19:30 | 1 hour 10 minutes |
| Avengers first | Avengers in 4DX 12:30, ends 15:35 | Dune in IMAX 18:45 | 3 hours 10 minutes |
The end times are Pathé's own and include trailers. The first plan leaves little time for a break, so the second is the easier day. A 4DX seat is not for everyone (see the rules above), and KINO is a separate cinema, so leave more time around the 70mm shows. Check the times again closer to the date.
Which cinema is the closest for each format?
| City | Dune in IMAX or 70mm | Avengers in 4DX, ScreenX or Dolby Cinema |
|---|---|---|
| Amsterdam | Pathé Arena (IMAX), Eye (70mm) | Pathé Arena and de Munt (4DX), de Munt (Dolby Cinema) |
| Rotterdam | Pathé Schouwburgplein (IMAX), KINO (70mm) | Pathé de Kuip (4DX, Dolby Cinema) |
| Den Haag | Pathé Spuimarkt (IMAX) | Pathé Spuimarkt (ScreenX), Scheveningen (4DX, Dolby Cinema) |
| Utrecht | Pathé Utrecht Leidsche Rijn (IMAX) | Pathé Utrecht Leidsche Rijn (4DX), Kinepolis Jaarbeurs (ScreenX) |
| Eindhoven | Pathé Eindhoven (IMAX) | Pathé Eindhoven (4DX) |

All screenings of both films are listed on Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday, and every cinema on cinemas in the Netherlands.
