A Czech documentary in which filmmaker Pepa Lubojacki films her brother and cousins over five years as they struggle with addiction and homelessness.
If Pigeons Turned to Gold is a documentary by Pepa Lubojacki, who appears as herself. Over five years, the film follows the filmmaker's brother David Lubojacki and the filmmaker's cousins, who, like many people in the family, struggle with alcoholism and homelessness. David and two cousins deal with addiction and mental health problems, a pattern that runs through the family.
The film brings together phone footage, old family photographs altered with artificial intelligence, electronic music and comments from a talking pigeon. Pepa Lubojacki's own thoughts run through the material as the filmmaker tries to understand why addiction repeats across generations and how the family might find a better future. David Richter and Marco Arnone also appear as themselves.
