About

A Russian school videographer secretly films how state propaganda and militarisation enter his primary school after the invasion of Ukraine.

Mr. Nobody Against Putin follows Pavel 'Pasha' Talankin, videographer and event coordinator at Primary School No. 1 in Karabash, a poor mining town near the Ural Mountains. When Russia launches its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the school changes: state propaganda becomes teaching material, patriotic events are required, and pupils have to march and sing military odes. Talankin, who is also a teacher, is assigned to record the school's activities. After contacting director David Borenstein, he continues filming undercover, documenting how the government programme, including the lessons 'Conversations about Important Things', reaches his school and pupils. Talankin appears as himself, and the film uses archive footage of Vladimir Putin. The film is directed by David Borenstein and co-directed by Talankin.
