About
An undersized Viking teen aspiring to be a dragon slayer shoots down a rare Night Fury, then befriends it instead of killing it.
In the Viking village of Berk, dragons regularly attack and steal livestock. Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel) is the undersized teenage son of chieftain Stoick (Gerard Butler). He is considered too weak to fight, so he works as an apprentice to the blacksmith Gobber (Craig Ferguson) and builds mechanical devices.
Hiccup wants to become a dragon slayer like the other Vikings. During a dragon raid he uses a bolas launcher to shoot down a rare Night Fury, though nobody believes him. He finds the dragon in the forest but cannot bring himself to kill it; instead he sets it free. The Night Fury pins him down, but, to Hiccup's surprise, spares him. Hiccup later befriends the dragon, which he names Toothless, to his father's displeasure. Astrid (America Ferrera) is a Viking girl from the village.
