About
An author seeking inspiration for her novel spies on her neighbours and hires a young assistant, blurring the line between fiction and reality.
Parallel Tales follows Sylvie (Isabelle Huppert), an author looking for inspiration for her new novel. From her home she secretly observes the neighbours in the building across the street, using a telescope to follow their lives. She hires young Adam (Adam Bessa) to help her with her daily routine. His arrival affects both her life and her work, and the neighbours she observes. The stories she imagines begin to take on a life of their own. The line between her fiction and the reality around her becomes increasingly unclear. Asghar Farhadi directs; the ensemble cast also includes Virginie Efira, Vincent Cassel, Pierre Niney and Catherine Deneuve.
