About
What to expect
Beethoven's Mass in C is performed by the Chor der Frauenkirche and the Chursächsische Philharmonie Bad Elster on historical instruments.
Fürst Nikolaus II. Esterházy commissioned the Mass for his wife's name day and later mocked the composer.
E.T.A. Hoffmann described the music as a feeling of deep melancholy.
Today the Mass is considered a great unknown and is overshadowed by the Missa solemnis.
