About
In a 14th-century Italian abbey, Franciscan friar William of Baskerville and his novice Adso investigate a monk’s suspicious death before a Church conference.
In 1327, Franciscan friar William of Baskerville (Sean Connery) arrives with his novice Adso of Melk (Christian Slater) at a Benedictine abbey in northern Italy. A monk has died in suspicious circumstances before a Church meeting on theology is due to take place; a young illuminator is thought to have taken his own life. The worried abbot (Michael Lonsdale) allows William to look into the death. F. Murray Abraham plays Bernardo Gui, an inquisitor and William’s rival. Jean-Jacques Annaud’s 1986 film is based on Umberto Eco’s novel.
