About

After a workshop on selling Hallmark movies, filmmaker John Wilson tries the same formula on a documentary about concrete.

After his documentary series How To with John Wilson ends, filmmaker John Wilson looks for a new platform for his observations of everyday life. A workshop on how to write and sell a Hallmark movie gives him a plan: apply the same commercial formula to a documentary about concrete. In The History of Concrete, Wilson's feature directorial debut, the project grows into a humorous and philosophical look at urbanism, the built environment and the mundane textures of American life. Wilson appears as himself, and the cast includes Michael Imperioli and Jack Macco as themselves, with Nathan Fielder, Timothée Chalamet, Josh Safdie, Ronald Bronstein and Tom Ford also listed as themselves without credit.
