The classics in Enschede

6 places that make the city

The places that make Enschede: Grote Kerk, Rijksmuseum Twenthe, Museumfabriek and more, with what is on there next.

Grote Kerk

Indoors

The church in the middle of the Oude Markt, which the city calls its living room. Come for a concert, from baroque and choral music to organ, and listen for the carillon of 49 bells.

Rijksmuseum Twenthe

The art museum of the east: old masters such as Breughel and Ruisdael, Breitner, Jongkind and Monet, and changing exhibitions. The museum café and its courtyard garden are open without a ticket.

Museumfabriek

A family museum in Roombeek, in the textile factory of Rozendaal from 1907. You make things yourself in the Makerspace, and on the roof of the tower there is an observatory.

Volkspark

The oldest Volkspark in the Netherlands, 15 hectares with winding ponds, made for the city's textile workers. The war memorial here is where Enschede holds its 4 May commemoration.

Oude Markt

Outdoors

The square at the heart of the city, with the Grote Kerk in the middle, terraces all around and most of the bars. Events are held here all year, from live music in summer to the ice rink in winter.

Tetem

Indoors

An art space in Roombeek for digital and maker culture, with interactive exhibitions. At weekends adults and children can try 3D printers, laser cutters and VR in its lab.
