About
A famous novelist is rescued by a nurse who claims to be his biggest fan and holds him captive in her remote Colorado home.
Famed novelist Paul Sheldon (James Caan) writes Victorian romance novels about Misery Chastain. The books are profitable, but Paul dislikes the series and wants to write more serious literature. He leaves a cabin in Silver Creek, Colorado, where he has finished a new manuscript, and drives toward New York City. Caught in a blizzard, he crashes his Mustang. Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates), a nurse who claims to be his biggest fan, finds him and takes him to her remote home. Paul wakes up bedridden with broken legs and a dislocated shoulder. Annie says she will look after him until the telephone lines are reconnected and the local roads are cleared. Rob Reiner directed the 1990 film.
