The Düsseldorfer Symphoniker play in the Tonhalle, a concert hall fitted under the dome of the former Rheinhalle of 1926, and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein stages opera and ballet. Robert Schumann became the city's music director in 1850, and every June the Schumannfest is his. Concerts at the Robert Schumann Hochschule and in the churches along the Rhine fill the rest of the calendar.

Between 1976 and 1978 a concert hall was built under the dome of the Rheinhalle of 1926. The Great Hall with about 1,850 seats is home to the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, and the Schumannfest begins here.
