What to expect

In 1786, Mozart and Da Ponte plan to stage a forbidden piece after Beaumarchais's comedy. They promise the emperor it is only about love, not power; three years later the French Revolution began.

240 years later, Die komische Oper am Rhein brings the opera back to Schloss Jägerhof, now the Goethe-Museum.

Schloss Jägerhof was built in the mid-18th century as an elector's pleasure palace. His gamekeeper lived there until 1795, and revolutionary troops plundered it in 1796.

The audience walks with the singers from scene to scene through the rooms.
