About

A Czechoslovak teenager with magic earrings navigates a dreamlike world of a thief, a masked constable and a priest as reality and fantasy blur.

Valerie (Jaroslava Schallerová) is a Czechoslovak teenager living with her grandmother Elsa (Helena Anýžová). She owns a pair of magic earrings, which the thief Orlík (Petr Kopřiva) steals. He returns them the next day, to the anger of the masked Constable Tchoř (Jiří Prýmek). The earrings once belonged to the Constable, who also owned the house where Valerie and her grandmother live. Valerie learns that missionaries and a company of actors are coming to town. At her neighbour Hedvika's wedding, she sees the Constable watching her, and her grandmother seems to recognise him. A letter from Orlík warns that the Constable is his uncle and wants the earrings back. In Valerie's dreams the line between fantasy and reality blurs: she is the daughter of a bishop and her grandmother is a vampire. She encounters the priest Gracián (Jan Klusák).
