About
In 1950s New Jersey, two Italian immigrant brothers try to save their failing restaurant with a banquet honouring jazz musician Louis Prima.
Big Night is set in New Jersey in the 1950s. Italian immigrant brothers Primo and Secondo run a restaurant called Paradise. Primo, played by Tony Shalhoub, is a perfectionist chef who dislikes the Americanised Italian dishes customers expect. Secondo, played by Stanley Tucci, manages the place and is drawn to the opportunities of life in the United States. Their uncle has invited them to help run his popular restaurant in Rome, an offer that appeals to Primo. The brothers' own restaurant is struggling, despite Primo's cooking and Secondo's efforts. Secondo cannot commit to his girlfriend Phyllis (Minnie Driver), and he has recently been sleeping with Gabriella (Isabella Rossellini), the wife of a competitor. The brothers organise a banquet in honour of jazz musician Louis Prima, hoping the evening will bring the restaurant attention.
