HerHer

A lonely writer in a near-future Los Angeles buys an artificially intelligent operating system and begins a romance with its voice, Samantha.

In a near-future Los Angeles, Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix) is a lonely, introverted man. He writes personal letters for a company whose clients cannot compose such letters themselves, and he is depressed about his impending divorce from his childhood sweetheart, Catherine. Theodore buys OS¹, an artificially intelligent operating system from Element Software that is designed to adapt and evolve through its user's interactions. He chooses a feminine voice, and the system names herself Samantha (Scarlett Johansson). Theodore is fascinated by how she learns and grows; they discuss love and life, including his reluctance to sign the divorce papers. Samantha encourages him to go on a blind date that a friend has arranged.
