Live music: questions and answers
What people ask most about going to a concert or show in Minneapolis–St. Paul.

Finding a show
Where can I find concerts in Minneapolis and St. Paul?
In the calendar on this page. We are just starting in the United States: we collect the programs of Minneapolis and St. Paul venues every day, starting with First Avenue and the Cedar, and sort the shows by day and genre.
Are there concerts tonight?
Most nights, yes, from small bars to the arenas, and Friday and Saturday are the busiest. The tonight page lists the shows we know of in the order they start.
Tickets
Where do I buy tickets?
From the link the venue gives: its own box office or the ticket company it works with, usually Ticketmaster or AXS. Every show on Evenitto links to the page where the organizer sells tickets. Buying at the box office in person can save part of the fee.
What if the show is sold out?
Check the venue's official resale, such as Ticketmaster's or AXS Official Resale, where tickets are checked before you pay. Extra tickets are sometimes released on the day. Avoid buying from strangers online.
Why is the ticket price higher at checkout?
Since May 2025 a federal rule makes ticket sellers show the total price, fees included, from the start. Fees still vary, so compare the total, not the face value.
Age limits and ID
What do all ages, 18+ and 21+ mean?
Every show has an age limit: all ages, 18+ or 21+, and the listing says which. The limit is often set by the artist, so it can change from show to show at the same venue.
Do I need an ID?
Yes, a valid photo ID such as a driver's license, state ID or passport, even if you look older. At 18+ and all-ages shows only guests 21 and over can buy alcohol, and the bar checks again.
Can children come along?
At all-ages shows, yes. At 18+ shows it depends on the venue: First Avenue's rooms let minors in with their own parent or legal guardian, while some venues allow no one under 18. Check before you buy.
At the show
When should I arrive?
Tickets show two times: doors, when the venue opens, and show, when the first act starts. One or two openers usually play before the headliner, who often goes on an hour or more after the show time. Want the front? Get there at doors.
Do I need earplugs?
Yes, if you stand near the stage. Concerts are loud, and a pair of earplugs lowers the volume without ruining the music. Pack a pair before you leave.
Can I bring a bag?
As little as you can. Most clubs allow small bags and send backpacks to coat check, and arenas allow only a small clutch or a clear bag. Each venue posts its bag policy on its site.
Can I take photos?
Check the venue's rules. Phones are normally fine for a photo or a short clip; professional cameras and recording gear usually are not allowed without permission.
Festivals
When are the big festivals?
In summer. The Twin Cities Jazz Festival is in June, the Minnesota Yacht Club Festival in July, and the State Fair Grandstand runs from late August to Labor Day. Lollapalooza in Chicago is at the turn of July and August.
