The figures come from the theatre's hall-rental page. Both halls have a retractable tribune that can be slid in, so the room can be rearranged for workshops, lectures or performances; the café is also available for hire.
Wikipedia's building entry gives 172 seats for the Grote Zaal, one fewer. The difference is small; this page uses the theatre's own current figure of 173. Neither hall has fixed numbered seats for a regular performance.
For comparison, Theater Het Lichtruim in Utrecht seats 130, Sportcomplex Zoudenbalch 450 and Stadion Galgenwaard 23,750. Kikker is a small-to-mid-sized city theatre: its Grote Zaal is larger than Het Lichtruim's room but less than half the capacity of Zoudenbalch.

Wheelchair places
Both halls, book by phone or email
Hearing loop
Grote Zaal only, two receivers
You cannot reserve a specific seat when you book. Come early; the theatre advises arriving 30 minutes before the start. If you need a particular place because of a disability, call or email the box office and staff will reserve one and guide you to it.
Both halls have wheelchair places. The Grote Zaal has a hearing loop with two receivers and accepts your own Sennheiser infrared receiver; the Kleine Zaal has no loop. There is a lift and an accessible toilet in the building.
For a regular performance the Grote Zaal seats 173 and the Kleine Zaal 70. Both tribunes can be slid in, so the layout for a rental or a standing event may differ from a seated show.

Café, bar and interval drinks
The café in the foyer opens an hour before the show and stays open afterwards; drinks are allowed in the foyer, not in the hall.
The café was completely renovated in summer 2023. It has sofas and chairs by SOFACOMPANY, a bar for lemonade, coffee, tea, beer and wine, and space to read the programme before the show or talk afterwards.
It also hosts small exhibitions and occasional pre- or post-talks with actors and makers, and sells Theater Kikker products. It is a café-bar rather than a full restaurant; for dinner, the surrounding centre has many restaurants.
The café can be hired for meetings, workshops, lunches and drinks, and the theatre works with local caterers for those events. For a normal visit, it is the place to wait before the doors open and to stay after the show.

A small, idiosyncratic theatre in the old centre
Theater Kikker is an independent-minded theatre on the Ganzenmarkt, a few steps from the Oudegracht and the Neude. Its programme mixes toneel, performance, modern dance and jeugdtheater, with a clear place for young makers and companies from Utrecht. Part of the programme comes with introductions or after-talks.
The building holds two halls: the Grote Zaal with 173 seats and the Kleine Zaal with 70. Both tribunes can be slid in for rentals, and the café can be hired as well. Seats are not numbered for a normal performance, so you choose a place when you go in; staff can reserve one if you need a particular spot.
An evening at Kikker is informal. The café and box office open an hour before the show, the theatre advises arriving 30 minutes early, and latecomers cannot enter the hall after the start. Drinks stay in the foyer, sound can exceed 96 dB(A), and free earplugs are available at the bar.
The theatre was founded in 1972 as Tejater Kikker and has been at Ganzenmarkt 14 since 1980. It presents around 300 performances a season and has run Podium Hoge Woerd in De Meern since 2015.

From Tejater Kikker to Theater Kikker
Theatre Kikker began in 1972 as Tejater Kikker and has been on the Ganzenmarkt since 1980.
The company was founded in 1972 by members of the Utrechtsch Studenten Corps under the name Tejater Kikker. It was first housed in the student society Placet hic Requiescere Musis on the Janskerkhof. Under its present name, Theater Kikker, it moved to Ganzenmarkt 14 in 1980.
The theatre presents around 300 performances in its own programme each season, about 120 titles, plus around 100 activities by festivals and external hirers. It works with many volunteers and opens the season with Kikker Kiest, a festival that brings back highlights from the previous year.
Since 30 August 2015 Theater Kikker has also run Podium Hoge Woerd, the podium in Castellum Hoge Woerd in De Meern, on the invitation of the municipality of Utrecht.
