How many people fit in Theater de Voorveghter?
The large theatre hall seats about 480 people and the small hall 100. For a private event the whole building takes up to 650 people.
The 480-seat hall is the main auditorium and the 100-seat hall the second; the building also has two cinema rooms and four foyers. Do not add the two halls together to get a concert capacity: they are separate rooms, and the 650 figure is the venue’s maximum for a private event using the building.
Compared with the theatres people travel from in this part of Overijssel, De Voorveghter is a mid-sized regional house: Schouwburg Ogterop in Meppel has a 484-seat main hall and a 120-seat Engelenbak, while Theater De Spiegel in Zwolle seats 919 as standard.
| Venue | Main hall | Second hall | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Theater de Voorveghter, Hardenberg | About 480 seats | 100 seats | Up to 650 people across the building for a private event |
| Schouwburg Ogterop, Meppel | 484 seats | Engelenbak, 120 seats | Historic balcony hall |
| Theater De Spiegel, Zwolle | 919 seats | Not published | Up to 1,000 with the ceiling in its highest position |
Choosing seats in the hall
You usually pick your own seat on the seat map when you book online. The auditorium is split into an even and an odd side, so seats 7 and 9 are neighbours just as 8 and 10 are.

Seat numbering
Even and odd sides
Seat numbers run in two series: even on one side of the hall, odd on the other. A gap in the numbers within one order therefore does not mean a gap between people. The theatre places every ticket from the same order next to each other, whether the order is for two, three or six seats; only for an almost sold-out show can the theatre place you differently.
Wheelchair spaces are not sold online. Both halls have special places, and you book them by phone on 0523 280 350 or by email so the theatre can lay out the spaces properly. The building also has an adapted toilet.
If you book within 48 hours of a performance, collect and pay the tickets at least half an hour before the start. Up to 48 hours before a performance you can exchange your tickets for another one.
How a theatre evening at De Voorveghter works
Doors open an hour before the start, most evening performances begin at 20:15, and the theatre emails the expected end time two days before.
- Book online and choose your seat on the map, or call the box office on 0523 280 350 (Tuesday to Friday, 11:00-14:00, and an hour before a performance).
- Arrive from an hour before the start. The performance begins at the time printed on the ticket, usually 20:15 for an evening show.
- If you are late, the house rule is no entry after the start; if there is an interval you can take your seat then.
- The service email two days before the performance gives the expected end time. For a typical full-length evening show starting at 20:15, plan on leaving around 22:15.
- For a meal before or after, the theatre lists restaurants in the neighbourhood, the closest a one-minute walk away.
Eating before or after the show
The theatre lists several restaurants in Hardenberg for a meal around the performance, from Brasserie de Markt a minute’s walk away to places on the edge of the woods and by the water.
The theatre’s own page “Compleet avondje uit” lists restaurants in the neighbourhood for a meal before or after the show. Brasserie de Markt is the closest, at one minute on foot, and asks you to reserve. Amused is on the Voorstraat in Hardenberg, De Troubadour sits by the water, Rheezer Bistro is at the edge of the woods, and Den Herdenbergher and Brasserie Fortuin are also on the venue’s list.
- Brasserie de Markt — one minute on foot; reserve in advance.
- Amused — Voorstraat, local produce and matching wines.
- De Troubadour — by the water, open from 11:00.
- Rheezer Bistro — at the edge of the woods, for a longer dinner.
- Den Herdenbergher — food, drinks and music.
- Brasserie Fortuin — dinner with vegetarian options and a garden.

Accessibility at De Voorveghter
Both halls have wheelchair spaces and the building has an adapted toilet. Book those places by phone on 0523 280 350 or by email, not through the online seat map.
The theatre says it is well accessible for wheelchair users and visitors who have difficulty walking. The special places in both halls are laid out by the box office, which is why they are not sold online. A free infrared hearing loop is available on loan and works with or without a hearing aid; ask a member of staff to test it before the performance.

House rules for your visit
No photography, film or sound recording during a performance, and switch your phone off. Late visitors are not admitted after the start.
The theatre asks visitors to respect the performance: a ringing phone or a late entrance disturbs the actors, musicians and the rest of the audience. If there is an interval, late visitors can take their seats then, but a late arrival does not give a right to a refund.
Children are welcome in the age category shown with each performance. Babies are not admitted unless a performance says otherwise, and every visitor needs a ticket and a reserved seat, including a child on a lap, because of fire-safety rules.
