Schouwburg De Kring agenda: upcoming events
Tonight, this week and the months ahead at this venue in Roosendaal.
April 2027
Plan your visit to Schouwburg De Kring
Capacity: 900 seats in one raked hall
The EKP hall seats 900 people, 40 of them in the VIP-Loge. That is the official count for the temporary theatre; the renovated Kerkstraat halls do not yet have published seat counts.
The comparison below is about scale, not like-for-like: Atik is a football stadium and De Luiten a sports park. At 900 seats, De Kring is the intimate room in this list, and the EKP's single raked tribune keeps the stage close. The renovated theatre will again have a Grote and a Kleine zaal, but their seat counts have not been published.
| Venue | Capacity | Source |
|---|---|---|
| De Kring, EKP-gebouw | 900 (40 VIP) | De Kring, EKP page |

Seating: one tribune, 40 VIP places, four wheelchair places
One raked tribune, 900 seats, 40 VIP places. The first row is at ground level; every row behind it rises 20 cm, so each row sits higher and the steps accumulate.
Seats are vinyl-covered folding bucket seats. There is no published row-by-row plan for the EKP; the hall is a single tribune. The VIP-Loge holds the 40 best-view places and includes the arrangement described under food and drink. For a specific seat, an aisle seat or a wheelchair place, call the box office rather than guessing from a generic plan.
Only row 1 is step-free. The entrance is wheelchair-friendly and there are four wheelchair places with companion places, booked through the box office. There are also four disabled parking spaces in front of the building; bring your disabled parking card.
If you want to be close to the stage, row 1 is level but low. If you prefer to look down on the stage, a higher row gives a better angle, but it involves more steps: the 20 cm rise per row adds up quickly towards the back.
Tickets, start times and cancellations
Evening shows usually begin at 19:30; the Tuesday afternoon series at 14:30 and some family matinees at 13:30. Doors open an hour before the start; the tribune opens 30 minutes before.
Tickets are sold online through the agenda or by phone on 0165 555 555. An e-ticket does not need to be printed; it can be scanned from your phone. If a performance is sold out, ask for the waiting list: returns are offered to the people at the top first.
De Kring does not publish end times. A 19:30 evening typically finishes around 22:00 and a 14:30 matinee around 17:00, depending on the running time and whether there is an interval; check the event page for the running time and your ticket for the start.
Up to 48 hours before the performance you can exchange a ticket for another show in the same season or turn it into a digital credit, for €3.50 per ticket. Up to 3 hours before, cancellation costs €5.00 per ticket and becomes a digital credit or an exchange. Within 3 hours, cancellation is not possible, and the credit cannot be exchanged for cash.
Online payment accepts iDEAL, Bancontact, Visa/Mastercard and the Podiumcadeaukaart. At the theatre, payment is cashless: pin or credit card. A VVV-bon can be used online.
Food and drink: the foyer bar and the VIP-Loge
The foyer bar is the food and drink point in the EKP-gebouw: an interval drink, a warm drink or a beer, all cashless. The VIP-Loge adds a served arrangement.
In the interval, or after the show if there is no interval, a drink is ready in the foyer: a soft drink or a glass of wine. Warm drinks, draft beer and other beers are ordered at the bar; spirits carry a surcharge. An interval consumption is not included with every performance.
The VIP-Loge arrangement costs €15.50 per person. In the interval the hospitality team serves a drink of your choice in the VIP-Loge; after the show a table with your name is reserved in the foyer, with two drinks from the Dutch drinks range, two savoury bites and freshly roasted nuts.
The theatre's restaurant, Over de Tong, can be reached on 0165 751 688 or [email protected]. Ask whether it is open around your performance during the renovation; the foyer bar is the option inside the EKP.
The bar is cashless: pin or phone. There is no need to bring cash for drinks.

Accessibility: step-free entrance, four wheelchair places, hearing loop
The EKP entrance is step-free and the hall has four wheelchair places with companion places, but only the first row is at ground level. The hearing loop works with your own hearing aid.
Wheelchair users can reserve one of the four places and a companion place through the box office on 0165 555 555 or [email protected]. The entrance is wheelchair-friendly; row 1 is the only level row, and the other rows rise 20 cm per row.
For disabled parking, use the four designated spaces in front of the EKP-gebouw and bring your disabled parking card.
The hall has a hearing loop for visitors with their own hearing aid; ask the box office for the best seats. For blind and low-vision visitors, De Kring works with Stichting Theater Tolk on live audiodescription and a meet & feel at selected performances; book through the box office.
Assistance dogs are welcome; other animals are not. The renovated theatre is being fitted with a lift to the rooftop bar, so that floor will also be reachable for visitors with reduced mobility.
House rules: cloakroom, phones, smoking and late arrival
The EKP keeps a few clear rules: coats and large bags go to the free guarded cloakroom, phones stay away during the show, and late arrivals are seated when staff can do so without disturbing the room.
Coats and large bags may not go into the tribune; leave them in the free guarded cloakroom. Take as little as possible, especially on a full evening.
Phone use, photos, video and audio recording are not allowed during the performance unless the company says otherwise. Put your phone away before the lights go down.
Smoking and vaping are not allowed inside the EKP-gebouw; use the designated smoking spots outside. Late arrivals are admitted at staff discretion, and lateness is not a reason for a refund or rebooking. Allow extra time for the 17-minute walk from the station.
For children and babies, the age guidance on the event page applies; children below it and babies cannot be admitted to the hall. Check that guidance before booking.
Getting there: train, bus, taxi and bike
The EKP-gebouw is on the Kadeplein, a 17-minute walk from Roosendaal station and 3 minutes from the Markt bus stops. The old Kerkstraat theatre is a different address; do not use it for current shows.
By train, the EKP is 1210 m from Roosendaal station, 17 minutes on foot. From the station, buses 11, 12, 161, 162, 163, 164, 211, 220 and flex stop at Markt, 220 m or 3 minutes from the theatre. Bus 164 also stops at HGD-straat (280 m, 4 minutes), and buses 11, 161, 163, 164 and flex stop at Burgemeester Freijterslaan (500 m, 7 minutes).
By taxi, book Taxibedrijf De Groen on 0165-533434. By bike, park on the designated places on the talud (unguarded) or use the guarded bicycle parking on the Markt. By car, see the parking section; Curio is behind the building, but it is not available for every performance.
Late-night return. The venue does not publish last-train or last-bus times. Its transport page gives one concrete fallback: Taxibedrijf De Groen on 0165-533434, which can be booked in advance; use it if the show runs past the last service. The station is a 17-minute walk from the EKP.
Parking: €7 behind the EKP or €3 a short walk away
There are three practical options: Curio behind the EKP (€7, book ahead, not every show), Biggelaar and Nieuwe Markt (€3, 9-10 minutes' walk, tickets valid from 16:00).
Curio is the general car park at the building. It is behind the EKP and must be booked before the visit through Mijn agenda; the ticket is shown to the parking attendant. It is open from 1.5 hours before the start to 3 hours after the performance, but it is not available for every show, so check before you rely on it.
Biggelaar and Nieuwe Markt are the cheaper options. Book online through Parkeren Roosendaal; the €3 ticket is valid from 16:00, which suits evening shows but not a 14:30 matinee. Biggelaar is 660 m or 9 minutes' walk; Nieuwe Markt is about 10 minutes. Both are open 24 hours.
De Kring names only Curio, Biggelaar and Nieuwe Markt for theatre parking. OpenStreetMap also finds Roselaar, P+R Stationsplein and Mill Hill nearby, but records no rate or opening hours for them and De Kring does not offer them; without a published theatre rate or evening access, this guide does not recommend them.
For disabled parking, use the four spaces in front of the EKP-gebouw and bring your disabled parking card. Do not drive to Kerkstraat 1 for a current show: the theatre there is closed until the reopening.
| Car park | Address | Walk | Rate and notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Curio (behind the EKP) | Kadeplein 2, 4703 GB | 1 min | €7; book via Mijn agenda; open 1.5 h before to 3 h after; not every performance |
| Biggelaar | Biggelaar 29, 4701 RA | 9 min (660 m) | €3; 24 h; 375 spaces; ticket valid from 16:00 |
| Nieuwe Markt | Nieuwe Markt 81, 4701 AE | 10 min | €3; 24 h; ticket valid from 16:00 |

Two addresses, two chapters
De Kring has one organisation and, for now, two addresses. Use the date on your ticket to choose the right one.
| Location | Address | Halls | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| EKP-gebouw (temporary) | Kadeplein 2, 4703 GB Roosendaal | One raked hall, 900 seats (40 VIP) | September 2025 to early 2027 |
| Schouwburg De Kring (renovated) | Kerkstraat 1, 4701 HT Roosendaal | Grote zaal and Kleine zaal; seat counts not published | From 4 March 2027 |
Why De Kring is at the EKP during the renovation
The address on your ticket matters this year: De Kring performs at Kadeplein 2, not at its Kerkstraat theatre.
The Kerkstraat building closed for a major renovation. Work started in 2025 and is due to finish in early 2027; until then the company uses the empty EKP-gebouw, the old post office on the Kadeplein, as a pop-up theatre. The temporary season has 185 performances.
The renovation is substantial. The 25-metre stage tower is being re-clad in black, green, grey and red panels; the roof gets a technical garden and trees; a rooftop bar with an indoor and outdoor section connects to the small hall and the balcony of the large hall; there will be two hospitality points and two toilet groups; and copper tubes behind the façade form a heat system that will also warm the Sint Jan and the Tongerlohuys.
The official reopening is 4 March 2027, when the Grote zaal and Kleine zaal come back into use. Until then, use Kadeplein 2 for every visit.
What the EKP has: one hall, 900 seats (40 VIP), a foyer bar, a free guarded cloakroom, a hearing loop, four wheelchair places and four disabled parking spaces. What it does not have is the old building's two halls: the Grote zaal and Kleine zaal are closed until the reopening.

History: from 1909 to the 2027 reopening
De Kring has been Roosendaal's theatre since 1909. The Kerkstraat building opened in 1985 and is now being rebuilt for a 4 March 2027 reopening.
The company was founded in 1909 as the Katholieke Kring. The first play followed on 6 January 1910. The theatre moved into its new Kerkstraat building in May 1985.
The theatre closed in 2025 for a major renovation. During the work the company performs at the EKP, which welcomed its 100,000th visitor. The reopening is planned for 4 March 2027.
Until then, the EKP remains the address for every De Kring performance.

Where is Schouwburg De Kring?
At the EKP-gebouw, Kadeplein 2, 4703 GB Roosendaal. The Kerkstraat 1 theatre is closed for renovation and is due to reopen on 4 March 2027. For any performance before then, navigate to Kadeplein 2, not Kerkstraat 1.
When does De Kring reopen after the renovation?
The Kerkstraat theatre officially reopens on 4 March 2027, when the Grote zaal and Kleine zaal come back into use. Check the agenda for the current address before travelling.
What time do shows start?
Most evening performances start at 19:30. The Tuesday afternoon series starts at 14:30, and some family matinees at 13:30. Doors open an hour before the start and the tribune 30 minutes before. De Kring does not publish end times; a 19:30 show typically ends around 22:00 and a 14:30 matinee around 17:00, depending on the running time.
How much does parking cost?
Curio behind the EKP costs €7 and must be booked through Mijn agenda; it is open from 1.5 hours before to 3 hours after the show, but not for every performance. Biggelaar and Nieuwe Markt cost €3, are 9-10 minutes' walk away and are open 24 hours; the €3 ticket is valid from 16:00.
Is there a seat map?
The EKP has one raked tribune with 900 seats, 40 of them VIP. The first row is at ground level and each row behind rises 20 cm. There is no published row-by-row plan; call the box office for a specific seat, an aisle or a wheelchair place.
Are there wheelchair places?

Can I park at the theatre?
For general parking, only in the Curio car park behind the EKP, and only if it is bookable for your performance. It costs €7 and is open from 1.5 hours before to 3 hours after. Otherwise use Biggelaar or Nieuwe Markt (€3, 9-10 minutes' walk); the €3 ticket starts at 16:00, so it does not cover a 14:30 matinee.

Up to 3 hours before, cancellation costs €5.00 per ticket and becomes a digital credit or an exchange. Within 3 hours, cancellation is not possible. The credit cannot be exchanged for cash.
Can I pay by card?
Yes. The bar is cashless (pin or phone). Online tickets accept iDEAL, Bancontact, Visa/Mastercard and the Podiumcadeaukaart; at the theatre you can pay by pin or credit card. A VVV-bon can be used online.
What are the house rules?
Coats and large bags stay in the free guarded cloakroom. Phone use, photos, video and audio recording are not allowed during the performance. Smoking and vaping are not allowed inside; use the designated spots outside. Late arrivals are seated at staff discretion and lateness is not a reason for a refund or rebooking.
Is the theatre accessible for blind or low-vision visitors?
At selected performances De Kring works with Stichting Theater Tolk on live audiodescription and a meet & feel. Book through the box office on 0165 555 555 or [email protected]. The hall also has a hearing loop for visitors with their own hearing aid.
Can I bring children or a baby?
Family shows often have an age indication. Children below that age cannot be admitted, and babies are not admitted to the hall. Check the age guidance on the event page before booking.
Is there food and drink?
The foyer bar serves an interval drink (soft drink or wine), warm drinks and beer; it is cashless. An interval consumption is not included with every performance.
