About

A documentary concert film about the 1969 Woodstock Music & Art Festival in Bethel, New York, with performances and portraits of attendees.

Woodstock is a documentary concert film about the Woodstock Music & Art Festival held in Bethel, New York in August 1969. Michael Wadleigh directed the film, which combines concert footage with portraits of the people who attended and a look at how the event came together. Performers seen as themselves include Richie Havens, Joan Baez, Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, Keith Moon and Pete Townshend of The Who, Joe Cocker and Country Joe McDonald. The film follows the festival from its preparation onward and shows both positive and negative sides of the gathering, including the crowds, the mud and the arrival of National Guard helicopters with food and medical help for the improvised city of 500,000.
