About
Under house arrest and banned from filmmaking, Jafar Panahi documents his daily life and reflects on filmmaking with Mojtaba Mirtahmasb.
This Is Not a Film is an Iranian documentary by Jafar Panahi and Mojtaba Mirtahmasb. In 2010 Panahi is sentenced to six years in prison and a twenty-year ban on filmmaking and interviews with foreign press after he openly supported the opposition in Iran's 2009 election. The film follows him during house arrest in his apartment as he waits for a decision on his appeal. Partly shot on an iPhone, it shows his day-to-day life; he speaks with family and his lawyer and reflects on the meaning of filmmaking. Panahi appears as himself, and Mirtahmasb, who shot the film secretly, also appears as himself.
