About
In 1940 Spain, a six-year-old girl in an isolated village becomes fascinated by Frankenstein and goes looking for the monster's spirit.
Set in 1940, just after the Spanish Civil War, The Spirit of the Beehive centres on six-year-old Ana (Ana Torrent), a shy girl in an isolated village on the Castilian plateau. She lives in a manor house with her parents, Fernando (Fernando Fernán Gómez) and Teresa (Teresa Gimpera), and her older sister Isabel (Isabel Tellería). Her father devotes his time to his beehives, while her mother writes letters and daydreams. When a mobile cinema brings James Whale's Frankenstein to the village, Ana and Isabel go to see it. The film leaves a deep impression on Ana, and Isabel tells her that the monster is not dead but exists as a spirit in a nearby barn. Ana becomes fascinated by the creature and goes looking for it.
