About

A 2013 Dutch nature documentary follows animal life through four seasons in the Oostvaardersplassen, a wetland reserve in the Netherlands, narrated by Harry Piekema.

The New Wilderness is a 2013 Dutch natural history documentary directed by Mark Verkerk and Ruben Smit. It is set in the Oostvaardersplassen, a nature reserve in the Netherlands, in a densely populated country where land has been shaped by people. The reserve lies near Almere, and the film presents a polder that stood under water forty years earlier and has developed into a wetland of international importance. Across four seasons, the film shows animal life in the reserve, including red deer, konik horses, foxes and kingfishers, as well as rare birds such as the white-tailed eagle. The footage is based on two years of filming, and Harry Piekema provides the narration. The film shows almost no people.
