About
A documentary by Mijke de Jong following Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema through 2025, from crisis meetings and interviews to public appearances and closed-door sessions.
The Mayor: Halsema & Amsterdam is a documentary by Mijke de Jong about Femke Halsema, who has been mayor of Amsterdam since 2018. De Jong followed her through 2025, filming crisis consultations, television interviews, public appearances and meetings behind closed doors. The film shows how the right to demonstrate and the need for public safety can come into conflict in the city. The period covered starts with the aftermath of the disturbances that followed the Ajax–Maccabi Tel Aviv football match. Femke Halsema appears as herself. Halsema also speaks about her work in a conversation recorded at home, on her own sofa.
