About
Dave Grohl directs a documentary about Sound City Studios, its Neve console and the musicians who recorded there.
Sound City is a 2013 American documentary directed by Dave Grohl and marks his first film as director. It examines the history of Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, and the importance of its Neve 8028 analog mixing console to rock and other recording genres. Grohl appears as himself, as do Trent Reznor, Tom Petty, Mick Fleetwood, John Fogerty, Rivers Cuomo, Taylor Hawkins and Barry Manilow. The film gathers interviews and recording stories from artists, producers and engineers connected to the studio. It also follows Grohl after he buys the Neve 80 Series console and moves it to his personal Studio 606. Rupert Neve, who designed the 8028, is interviewed.
