About

Alex Gibney's documentary examines Elon Musk's public influence through archival footage, interviews and an AI-generated version of Musk.

Alex Gibney directs Musk, a documentary about Elon Musk and the influence he has on contemporary politics and public life. The film mixes archive footage of Musk with interviews and contributions from among them Justine Musk, Ashley St. Clair, Kara Swisher, Zoë Schiffer, Martin Eberhard and Geoffrey Hinton. Gibney provides narration. Musk declined to take part, so Gibney trained an AI model on interviews and public appearances and interviews a generated Musk. The portrait follows Musk through different public roles: investor in space travel, environmental advocate, right-wing voice, and both supporter and critic of artificial intelligence.
